Wisty gallery

Hi wisty friends! Welcome to The Gallery. This October and November, we’re proud to present The Heritage that Roots Us: Celebrating Latinidad and Honoring Native Lands. This showcase highlights the interconnected stories of culture, identity, and resilience. From celebrating the vibrancy of Latinidad to honoring the sacred connection to Native lands, we aim to spotlight the ways heritage shapes and grounds us. As always, this platform is an evolving project, shaped by the incredible work and stories you share with us. Whether it's visual art, writing, or anything in between, our goal is to provide a consistent and accessible space for the community to engage beyond our print zines. We’re so grateful to be part of your creative journey and to share your work through the ever-growing Wisty web. Thank you for trusting us with your art.

Much love <3

Mia Violeta Aguirre

Visiting Mexico and Zapotlanejo, the small town my family is from was a deeply personal experience. It deepens my connection me to my roots in a way I hadn’t felt possible. Through my photography, I was able to capture some of the my experiences there, and the culture my grandfather grew up in.

The trip and my photos helped me understand how different my grandfathers youth was from mine, and how much tenacity and courage it took for him to immigrate to the US. Each photo was a way to preserve those moments, and understand myself, and my heritage, better. These photos will forever serve as a reminder of the beauty and strength of where I come from.

Title: tell me again, am I latino enough? (Extended version)

Art Medium: Poetry

Description: The poem is about existing as a Latino in a space where many of us young Mexican Americans or simply Latino Americans are expected to speak Spanish or expected to know English and either way we are meant to feel bad if we don’t know our language or if we didn’t grow up in the traditional Latino household but also are expected to be assimilated to the world around us etc.
